UPDATED: Endangered Democratic Congressman Larry Kissell is hosting a big-name fundraiser at a lobbyist's home Wednesday. The special guests include U.S. House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Congressman David Price and former Gov. Jim Hunt.
The Raleigh event at the home of Bruce and Heather Thompson costs $250 to attend with co-hosts paying $1,000. Bruce Thompson is a prominent federal and state lobbyist with Parker Poe, a Raleigh firm. His clients' interests at the state level include wind energy, healthcare, Daimler Trucks and various local governments.
Kissell represents the 8th Congressional District, GOP-leaning territory where a number of prominent Republicans are vying to defeat him in November. He raised more than $1 million to fend off a GOP challenge in 2010 with outside Democratic groups pouring in millions more.
