Democratic Congressman Mike McIntyre already is facing fire from the Republican group that tried unsuccessfully to oust him in the 2012 election. The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Wednesday it is airing a new TV ad criticizing the 7th District lawmaker for his recent budget vote.

The move comes days after the NRCC-backed candidate from 2012, former state Sen. David Rouzer, said he would challenge McIntyre in 2014. The Democrat was the only to win a targeted congressional race in North Carolina last year. See the ad script below.

The 2014 talk is starting and it's not just focused on which Republican will challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan.

Republican David Rouzer is looking at another run at U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre's seat in the 7th Congressional District. Rouzer lost by 650 votes in a prolonged recount in November, the closest race in the nation, he said. McIntyre was the only Democrat to win a highly contested seat that received national attention.

Democratic Congressman Mike McIntyre said Sunday he would return to Washington this week even as a recount looms in his re-election.

McIntyre finished 507 votes ahead of Republican David Rouzer in one of the most expensive congressional races in the nation.

His campaign manager said McIntyre would travel to the nation's capital Tuesday for his congressional duties."His commitment to the citizens and communities he represents is strong and solid," Lachlan McIntosh said in a statement. "We have a large team in place all over the 7th District as county Boards of Elections continue to review the provisional and absentee ballots.  We are confident our lead will continue and potentially grow -- and that our victory will stand.”

President Barack Obama almost ran the table Tuesday night when it came to battleground states. The lone exception: North Carolina.

The 7th District congressional race between Democrat Mike McIntyre and Republican David Rouzer ranks No. 5 among the most expensive House races in the nation.

As detailed in a Politico report, the outside spending from GOP groups to unseat the incumbent is running up the tab, bringing total spending in the race to $3 million.

Mike McIntyre is a Democrat. But you wouldn't know if from his latest TV ad running in the Raleigh market. The ad features Kay Carroll, a Smithfield pharmacist, who calls McIntyre "a strong conservative." Those are the words his GOP rival David Rouzer emphasized to win the Republican primary earlier this year.

With GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney under fire from Democrats for his business practices, the state Republicans Tuesday sought to redirect the focus on Democratic President Barack Obama, accusing him of political cronyism.

At a news conference at state GOP headquarters, Republicans said Obama seemed more concerned about rewarding political backers with government-backed loans than fixing a stalled economy.

“We are here to talk about how the Obama administration is unfairly, in my judgment, going after Gov. Romney,'' said state Sen. David Rouzer, the GOP candidate for Congress in the 7^th district.
