I found an interesting thread over on Hot Coupon World the other day. The topic: What has couponing taugt you?
I thought it was so interesting that I'd ask the question here. Please share... what has couponing taught you? And, also, for our newbies, what do you wish you knew when you started?

July 24, 2009 - 11:58am — dstarrCouponing has taught me to think ahead and anticipate needs. I plan my meals around what is on sale and what I have on hand. If there is something at an excellent price, I will go ahead and buy it rather than waiting until I run out. That being the case, I have also had to learn self-control while couponing. I devote a certain amount of space to regularly free/cheap items; once that space is filled, I buy no more even if it is free. So if my 'oral care' shoebox is full, no more free toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. for us!

July 21, 2009 - 7:32am — ThePRGuyMy wife and I have been couponing for a long time. I'd say it has taught us organization and patience. There have been many times we've thumbed through our coupon organizer in a store and found the right one near the back of the pack. The patience paid off with savings. Before I go to BJ's I will scan through the coupons to see which ones I might be able to use.

July 20, 2009 - 10:05pm — luvmyk9magsI started my love affair with coupons as a young girl. My "allowance" was based on the amount of money I saved our family in coupons each week - my mom would pay me cash for the amount of money I saved the family. This was an awesome way to learn the value of coupons early on. I encourage everyone to include their kids in the experience - the knowledge will save them thousands of dollars over the course of their lifetime.

July 20, 2009 - 1:51pm — labellefleurIt has taught me to never buy toothpaste when you can get it for free!lol.. Also, to not use my coupons right away. Many stores will put items on sale weeks after the coupon comes out in the insert.

July 20, 2009 - 10:52am — juanmariaI have been using coupons since 1996, but even more now than ever due to the economy. Couponing has taught me how to balance my budget better and to be a smarter shopper.
