I heard today from Julie, who is searching for "antique stores that carry vintage modern furniture (you know that cool 1950's modern furniture)" other than Father & Sons in Raleigh.
Anyone?
Help Julie out if you can...

I have been to both Purple Armchair and Father and Son Antiques. While I like both, I must say Father and Son has a lot more to offer in terms of selection and variety in vintage furniture. I don't know if Shelton's is still around in downtown Raleigh near Glenwood Ave but that might be worth a try. The NC State fairgrounds can turn up some interesting vendors outside of the buildings. It can be hit or miss, but I have found some really great pieces out there. If you do go out to the fairgrounds you should also check out Ben's Bargain Barn just across the street from the fairgrounds. I got a stainless steel bar several years ago for only $95.00.I wish there were more great places to try. These are all I know about. Happy hunting!!!
I was gonna suggest Classic Treasures in Durham as well...:)
Classic Treasures in Durham would probably have some that would fit that description.
Some folks on Savvydollar may have some good suggestions as well.
Beggars and Choosers in Pittsboro.
Try this place out... and please let us know how it went for ya!

I covered it in my own blog a while back (Hanging In My Closet) and I've heard both positive and negative reviews... I can't wait to get down there and check it out for myself, too!
They are self-described on their webpage as: "The goal for our Purple Armchair site is to reach out to the Raleigh community by enabling you -- artists, designers, or just someone interested in some cool vintage furniture -- to communicate with each other."
Sounds like it will hopefully be a good fit for your inquiring reader!
Re: Vintage furniture suggestions?
Try Portobello Road in Brightleaf Square in Durham. They have a nice mix of vintage furniture and vintage housewares and alot of other really interesting stuff. I've been in several times and bought a very hip couch there (60's era). They have some mid-century modern stuff there and more in their storage, so I hear. Good luck.
