Send a local band to NYC...

Normally, I stay away from advertising fund-raising efforts on this blog. But today I am going to make an exception because I have a soft spot for high school marching bands. My sister participated in the band during high school and college, as did my best friend.

A number of area businesses are trying to raise money to send the West Johnston High School marching band to New York to appear in the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade. West Johnston is the first band ever in Johnston County and first band in over a decade from North Carolina awarded the honor of appearing in the world-famous parade. The students have already raised thousands of dollars, but they still find themselves $38,700 short of the total they need to make the trip.

That's where you can help... Customers will be able to purchase a Macy's star for $1 at any of these businesses: T's Sun Tanz & Gift Boutique, Ken's Produce, Pure Salon, SignAge of the Carolinas, Bulldog Express, Cleveland Florist, The City Florist, Premiere Video, Let's Celebrate, Dominos Pizza, Don Lee Inc. Main Street Pizza, Charlie's BBQ, Cleveland Draft House and Community Chiropractic. The star will be hung on the band room wall and the money will go toward the band's New York fund. Or, you can make larger donations via snail mail or PayPal. There is more info available on the band's Web site here.
