There's a new deals site in town: Twongo.com.
Twongo, which officially launches today, is kind of an interesting experiment that combines discounts, social media and marketing. The idea is basically that Twongo partners with a local business to offer a deal of the day. The deal (or the discount) gets bigger if more people participate. So for instance, the first deal is a $50 voucher to the new Giorgio restaurant in Cary for $25. That's half-price already. But if enough people buy this deal, the discount goes to 54 percent (a $50 voucher for $23). And there's even another level... if enough people buy the deal, the discount goes to 60 percent, in which case you'd get that $50 voucher for $20.
The deal of the day changes daily Monday through Friday, but the Giorgio deal will run through the weekend. Here's the Twongo site. And here's a video on how it works.

Twongo Works!
February 27, 2010 - 5:41pm — yahooerWe tried it and got half price gift card for Jibarra. We used to go there when they were in N. Raleigh and needed a kick in the rear to try the new location downtown. Glad we did. Enjoyed lunch tremendously and still have enough left on the card to go back again. I'm a big fan and will Twongo again.
