Here are some shocking statistics for Earth Day: There are 220,000 tons of paper produced specifically for printing receipts in the United States each year. More than that, each ton of paper is the equivalent of 17 trees. So, 17 trees times 220,000 tons is 3.74 million trees that are cut just for receipts in the United States each year.
So, to celebrate Earth Day, the folks at Shoeboxed.com in Durham are inviting you to either send or bring your old receipts to their office for recycling. (Shoeboxed offers an online service that helps you organize your receipts.) They'll take care of the shredding and recycling for you. You can stop by the office in Brightleaf Square between today and April 29 any time between 8:30 a.m. and about 10 p.m. Or, you can mail them to Shoeboxed.com, 905 W. Main Street, Suite 23D, Durham, NC 27701.
If you know of any other cool Earth Day things happening, feel free to share the info!

Re: Recycle your receipts...
Here's another great way to celebrate EARTH DAY every day, go to the website: www.nonprofitshoppingmall.com, choose an environmental nonprofit group to give to, then choose from the list of GREEN stores to shop at. *hint* Shop at Organic Bouquet this Mothers Day and give to the Sierra Club. I use this site every time I shop online and turn my every day shopping into philanthropy. Enjoy!
