Well, despite the economy, I was encouraged by the news that U.S. household debt was paid down in the third quarter of this year. However, I was just stunned by the fact that this is the first time that's happened since 1952! Check out the MarketWatch story about the new household debt numbers here. I think the scariest part of this is that the main reason debt fell is because of the foreclosure rate. If you don't own a home anymore then you don't have the debt associated with it :-(
