Does vinegar cure dandruff? Probably not. But I bet you're scratching your head right now...
If you haven't heard or seen them yet, keep your eyes and ears peeled for a new ad campaign from Kerr Drug. In the ads, strangers offer wacky health remedies like the one above for all kinds of ailments. The suggestions are funny enough, but they are also a clever tie-in with a new contest from Kerr.
To enter, become a fan of Kerr Drug on Facebook and then share your wackiest health remedy on the company's Wall. You could win a $1,000 gift card. Here's the official contest page. Here's a link to the Facebook page. And just for fun, here's one of the TV spots.
Someone asked me the other day about whether they should wait for free shipping offers before buying from online retailers. My answer: most retailers will be offering free shipping soon, and most of them will keep offering it right through the holidays.
For instance, I got an e-mail from EddieBauer.com yesterday that offered free shipping through Dec. 24 with a $50 purchase. (use code EBGIFTS when you check out).
In the ultra competitive retail environment, I think a lot of retailers feel like they pretty much have to offer either completely free shipping or free shipping with a reasonable minimum purchase. Either way, it benefits the consumer. And if you are searching for a free shipping code, bookmark retailmenot.com. It's one of my favorites.
Thanks to reader Lida for this one:
I got a great deal on baby wipes at Target yesterday. I went to Target and printed the grocery coupons from www.target.com at the store from the kiosk. "UP" Target Brand wipes are 1.29 and there is a 1.00 off coupon any baby wipes.

Andrea over on our Mouthful blog has posted her Frugal Feast of the week featuring items on sale.
This week's recipe: Emeril's Quick Red Bean Soup.
Perfect for a cold, rainy day!
Well it’s an OK deals week out there, especially if you like to bake. Nearly all the grocery stores have baking items on sale this week, from butter to flour. (Remember, you can freeze butter!) It’s a great week to stock up on those things.
We are also beginning to see the sales on Thanksgiving products, including gravy, chicken broth and of course turkeys. If you don’t want to buy everything two days before Thanksgiving, you could start stocking up now.
Deal of the week: This week I’m headed to Rite Aid for the Oral-B CrossAction toothbrush. It’s $2.99 this week but FREE after $2.99 Single Check mail-in rebate. If you have the $1 coupon from Nov. 1, you can make a buck. It’s tough to beat a money maker toothbrush!
Click “Read more” to see the list! And remember, if the store has a loyalty card, you’ll need it to get the sale price.
If you have a kid who can't put down his or her cell phone, you may want to check out a new offering from Cary Towne Center this year.
The mall has set up a service that will send your child text messages from Santa. You can input some basic information about them and set up times for the texts to be sent. You can also opt to personalize the message, or choose from pre-written options. (ie. "cant w8 2 visit them xmas eve")
Who said Santa needs to know how to spell?
Anyway, the cost of the text service is $5.49, with $1 of that going to the March of Dimes. Here's the link for the program...
As today is Veterans Day, just a reminder that there are many free items for men and women who have served our military today. For the full list, see my story from this morning.
Also, today, area Sport Clips stores will donate $1 per hair cut today and collect donations for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Operation Uplink program that allows soldiers to call home during the holidays.
And, if you are looking for a cool way to give to military families for the holidays, check out Sears' Heroes at Home program. Heroes at Home is basically a huge gift registry, where military families can register for items that they need. People can then make a donation and read the families' stories. People who donate can also send a note of support with their donation. (Note, donations are NOT tax deductible.) Check out the program here.

Every year, I groan to myself when Office Max launches its Elf Yourself Web site, where you can upload a photo of yourself or your friends and then watch as your head is put on an elf's body and dances around.
Then I go Elf myself.
This year is no different. The Elf Yourself Web site is back with new dances this year and the ability to share your elves on Facebook and Twitter.
