Magazine recycling...

I heard today from reader Jeanne, who had this question:

I have back issues of these magazines: House Beautiful, House & Garden and Architectural Digest. Some are 2009 and many from previous years. Any idea where I can donate them? I am not looking for a receipt, etc.

Re: Magazine recycling...

The Cary Library has a magazine exchange right as you walk in the front door.

Re: Magazine recycling...

I second the Eva Perry Library magazine exchange. We have also donated to the Spring Arbor nursing home facility on Olive Chapel Road in Apex. They are THRILLED to get magazine donations.

Re: Magazine recycling...

You can put them on the craigslist free section... pretty sure someone would snap them up.

Re: Magazine recycling...

Rex hospital always welcomes magazines through their volunteer dept. to put in various locations through the hospitals.

Re: Magazine recycling...

I met a woman through the local Freecycle online community and have been keeping her fully stocked with magazines for a few years now. She puts them in care packages to send to VA hospitals for the troops. She makes handmade quilts for the soldiers and marines out of old denim jeans so they each have their own personal quilt (because we all know hospital sheets/blankets get traded in and out in the laundry service). So she collects old jeans and magazines and I am happy to supply her for her great care packages!

Re: Magazine recycling...

I teach a class where we use magazines all the time for collages etc. especially this time of year. The magazines you mention would be great because the likelihood of any offensive material being in them is low. YOu can take them to any school (middle school) and leave them. The office staff will usually take them to the teacher lounge.
Also, I take my People magazines to tbe beauty salon when I go in order to recycle.

Re: Magazine recycling...

Any of the nursing and rehab centers would love these. I always recycle mine. If no one wants them, you can always take them to a recycling center.

Re: Magazine recycling...

IF you live anywhere near Apex, try the magazine exchange at the Eva Perry Library -- you can drop off your magazines and/or pick up any that others have left. They prefer issues published within the previous 12 months.

Re: Magazine recycling...

I would try local schools, or camps. They are always looking for magazines with good pictures to cut up for projects.
