This is a big graduation weekend around here, and if you're attending one of the area's numerous graduation ceremonies, there's a good chance you're going to be toting a gift card. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend $4.4 billion on graduation gifts this year with nearly one-third (32.4 percent) of Americans purchasing at least one gift this year.
But, cash is still king, with 56.8 percent of Americans reporting that they'll give cash.

Re: Get a grad a gift card...
You're probably right on the gift card and cash points, but we are still seeing a strong volume of orders of specific gift items, such as for pre-law and law school graduation gifts, of LawTunes' (www.lawtunes.com) "The LawTunes Jury Boxed Set" -- four CDs of humorous original law-related rock-and-roll songs composed and produced by a practicing attorney, incorporating a broad spectrum of popular/classic rock-and-roll styles, taking on the law, lawyers, and legal practice in a hilarious, but positive, way. It may be that, in the absence of such gifts so well matched to specific career paths or courses of study, that gift cards and cash are the best one can do. Thanks for the info.
