Do you have food allergies?

Zach Becker, who runs the Gluten Free Raleigh blog, wants the Raleigh City Council to pass an ordinance requiring restaurants to display a poster about food allergies in order to educate food service workers. Becker said the poster will describe the major food allergens including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish and of course, gluten. To help drum up support, he's started an online peitition and is asking folks who support the idea to sign it. You can check it out here

Re: Do you have food allergies?

The N&O has run articles on food allergies and companies that produce "safe" foods. A reporter interviewed me several years ago about
purchasing peanut free Halloween candy for my kids.
There are also groups like FAAN. (Food Allergy and Asthmas Network?)
These companies and groups might provide posters if asked.
The petition doesn't specify who pays for the posters, does it?
These posters might save people's lives by avoiding accidental exposure to allergans.

Re: Do you have food allergies?

Why doesn't Becker drum up some donations and volunteers and provide them to restaurants as a public service of his interest group instead of requiring our tax payers to do this? Besides, it might end up quicker on that end if don't wait around for it to become public policy.
