The Raleigh area has been selected by Mattress Firm for a test program where shoppers are able to pick mattresses using a color-coded system. Called Comfort by Color, the system associates a level of comfort with a color for easy buying decisions. So, firm mattresses are all yellow coded, plush mattresses are orange, pillow tops are red, and contoured mattresses are green. The system is being tested in 10 stores in this area but is expected to be rolled out nationwide later this year.
I can't help but think of other color-coded shopping concepts, like The Grape's color-coded wine system. I guess we really are visual beings...

Fred's Beds has had a system in place like this for at least 6 months (maybe closer to a year actually) from their Mebane, NC-based manufacturer Kingsdown. It's definitely a cool thing for those of us visual people :-)
