Most of us who have been couponing for awhile have built up a nice little overstock, or the items in our pantry that we stock up on by buying when they are cheap.
If you have a plentiful overstock, please consider sharing some items with the Urban Ministries of Durham. I was at the Urban Ministries site at 410 Liberty St. last night, taking a tour and doing an interview for a story I am writing this week. While I was there, I was also shown the pantry from which volunteers provide food for needy families.
Supplies are dwindling as more families request more food now that schools are out and kids are eating their breakfasts and lunches at home. Immediate needs include peanut butter and jelly, powdered milk, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, cereal, rice and dry beans. There is also need for diapers, formula and baby food.
If you are able to share, please consider stopping by between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. One of the best things about couponing is sharing, and I encourage you all to do so if you can with the Urban Ministries of Durham or any other food pantry in your area.
