Regarding the tip to switch the electric meter to the "time of use" option. We did this recently but have found it not to be worth it so far. Even though the power company switchs out the meter for free, it has not saved us much money. Last month it saved us a whopping $2. And we used our energy during the time of the lower rates by doing laundry and other higher energy consuming activities. We are giving it one more month and if the savings are still so meager, we are switching back to the regular meter.
