Reporting fraud? There's an app for that

The state Auditor's Office has a smartphone application that allows people who spot government fraud or waste to report it, using their smartphones, to the office's investigative division.

Users can download photos or video to support their allegations, according to the office. By law, the names of those making reports are kept confidential. The app, available for iPhones and for phones using the Android operating system, allows for anonymous reporting.

Obama app offers campaign map for volunteers

In a bid to maximize its grassroots effort in North Carolina and elsewhere, President Barack Obama’s campaign plans to unveil a new smartphone app Tuesday that will offer localized information on everything from where supporters can volunteer and vote to how they can donate money and report abuses by poll workers on Election Day.

The app – available Tuesday for iPhones and in coming days for Android devices – will also give supporters information about how to register voters, Charlotte's Tim Funk reports. And it’ll include maps to find local Obama campaign events and phone banks and will allow volunteers to canvass their neighborhood directly from the app. Read more here.
