Will this be on the exam?

House Speaker Joe Hackney, an Orange County Democrat and UNC-Chapel Hill alum, will visit his old stomping grounds Monday to tell students how laws, policies and rules that govern the university are made.

Hackney and Roger Perry, immediate past chairman of the university's Board of Trustees, will talk to students enrolled in the course called Role of the University in American Life.

Dome wonders whether the lesson will cover special budget provisions and university booster PACs.

Two new names in chancellor's search

Two new names are on the Chancellor's Search Committee.

One new faculty member and one alumni representative have been named to serve on the committee to find a new chancellor for UNC-Chapel Hill, Jane Stancill reports.

The new committee members are Geoffrey Sayre-McCord, professor and chairman of the department of philosophy and Dwight M. Davidson III of Gibsonville, a 1977 UNC alumnus and chair of the General Alumni Association's Board of Directors.

These additions bring the final list of search committee members to 21. The others were announced last week by UNC-CH Trustees Chairman Roger Perry.

The panel will hold its first meeting on Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Library Assembly Room and a second meeting is planned for  Oct. 16 in the Magnolia Room at the Paul J. Rizzo Conference Center at Meadowmont. Public forums are planned for Oct. 26 and Oct. 30, with details to be announced later.
