If you're a fan of Harry & David and don't mind a little road trip, the upscale food retailer is opening a store in Burlington. Located in the Alamance Crossing shopping center. The only other Harry & David outlet in the state is at the Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
As I noted earlier this week, Wal-Mart Supercenters and Kmart stores are open today if you want to shop early. In Chapel Hill, the Roses store in University Mall is open until 3 p.m. today. And, many of the area's grocery stores and pharmacies will be open until at least noon or 2 p.m. for any last-minute things you forgot to buy for Thanksgiving dinner.
If you're headed out later this weekend, here are all the store hours you could possibly want (I hope). Happy shopping.

At Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, Bath Junkie opens tonight on the upper level near Barnes & Noble. Talk about good timing...
A new pet sitting company called Fetch Pet Care has opened an Apex location covering Apex, Cary, Fuquay, Morrisiville and Holly Springs. The company offers overnight visits, which I know are tough to find sometimes. Here's the link to their Web site.
In Cary, the area's first Christie Cookie location will open on Saturday. The Nashville company makes gourmet cookies and other baked items. The Christie Cookie store is next to the brand new Char-Grill in the new Fresh Market shopping center. The street address is 3639 SW Cary Parkway.
For those of you who collect those Christmas-time Hess toy trucks, this year's edition went on sale Wednesday. The 2007 Hess Monster Truck with Motorcycles can be purchased at Hess and Hess Express retail stores for $21.99 plus tax — batteries included. The truck includes 17 light bulbs, moving arms on the motorcycle riders and three sound effects. Anyone collect these? This one seems pretty fancy to me...
The new Golfsmith store in North Raleigh quietly opened to the public today. The store is in the former Best Buy space at Pleasant Valley Promenade off U.S. 70. It's not only the first Golfsmith in our area, but the first one in the state and in this entire part of the country.
The most visible change from the outside is that they painted the building bright red. But the inside of the store is quite astounding. GolfSmith specializes in both golf and tennis equipment and has a whole lot of bells and whistles for enthusiasts of those sports. For tennis players, there's a full-size court inside the store and a golf pro on staff. For golfers, there are simulators, swing analyzers and places where you can practice for all kinds of different scenarios. The store offers a 115 percent price guarantee and its loyalty club gets you coupons and other perks. If you're in the area, it could be fun to check out. You could easily spend an hour or more playing with all the high-tech toys.
It looks like IHOP has set the opening date for its new store out near Beaver Creek Commons in Apex. The restaurant, off U.S. 64 is scheduled to open on Nov. 19 (though, of course, that's always subject to change).
Raleigh-based Kerr Drug is offering a very unique gift option this season. For $30, you can buy a Flu-Gram — a gift card good for the value of one flu shot. While a flu shot is not as cool a gift as, say, a flat-screen TV or a Wii video gaming system, it could be a really useful gift for someone in your life. For more information, click here.
