Stamp out hunger...

The USPS is hosting its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday.

Helping is easy. Put nonperishable food items in a bag and place the bag by your mail box. Your mail carrier will take the bag and the USPS will donate the items to a local food bank. That's all. It's a great way to share the wealth from this last triple coupons event!

And, while we're on the topic of the post office, just a friendly reminder that the postal rates are going up on May 11. It will cost 44 cents to mail a letter unless you have the Forever stamps with the Liberty Bell on them that are good regardless of when you purchased them. 

Apex business expo...

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 20, when the Apex Chamber of Commerce will host a business expo. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Apex Community Center (53 Hunter St.). There will be more than 60 businesses exhibiting their products and services. The event is free and open to the public. 

Xios Mother's Day celebration...

The Xios restaurant in Apex will be celebrating Moms on Mother's Day from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All mothers will receive chocolate cobbler desserts, and there will be drawings for prizes throughout the day. The restaurant is at 800 W. Williams St. 

Cinco de Mayo at McDonald's....

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the McDonald's at 3710 Western Blvd. in Raleigh will be hosting a party tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. La Ley, 96.9 will be broadcasting live. Kids (and I guess adults) can take a picture with Ronald McDonald from 5 to 7 p.m., and of course, there will be prizes...

Financial fortitude fair...

On Saturday May 2, the Knightdale-Wake Forest Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be hosting a free financial fortitude fair at the Factory in Wake Forest.

Representatives from area real estate companies, Triangle Family Counseling Services of Durham, financial planners and the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency will be present. The event will run fro 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Benefit night at Ten Thousand Villages...

On Thursday, April 30, the Ten Thousand Villages store in Cameron Village will donate 15 percent of its sales between 4 and 8 p.m. to the Catholic Parish Outreach. CPO is the third-largest food pantry in the state and served an average of 6000 people a month in 2008.

There are several events going on tomorrow that may be of interest to you:

At Falls River Town Center off Durant Road in North Raleigh, the Spring Fling: Dog Days of Spring will be on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a dog food donation to participate in the dog walk. There will be pet contests, dog training demos and other activities.

At the Rapid Fitness store on Glenwood Avenue (7101 Glenwood in the old CompUSA building), there will be a grand opening celebration from noon to 5 p.m. There will be free rides for kids, food, prizes and the opportunity to meet three-time World's Strongest Man Bill Kazmaier.

And the Rite Aid store at 1200 NW Maynard Road will be hosting a barbecue tomorrow (Saturday) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Stop on by if you're in the area...

Princess Night at Chick-fil-A...

The Chick-fil-A in Capital Crossing (4621 Capital Blvd.) is hosting Princess Night tomorrow (Tuesday) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Children will be able to meet Miss North Carolina and the Eat Mor Chikin Cow. They will also be able to make a tiara to take home, get a balloon animal and participate in other activities. A portion of the night's proceeds will go to the ALS Association.

Triangle Restaurant Week...

Mark your calendar if you're a foodie... Triangle Restaurant Week is coming up May 11 through May 17.

Modeled after other restaurant weeks in other cities, participating restaurants will offer a three-course fixed price menu to diners. You can check out the list of restaurants and all the details here

Free community health fair...

The annual Triangle Health Fair will take place tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Method Road Park in Raleigh. The event is free and open to the public. Services offered will include check ups, eye and oral exams, information and testing for high blood pressure, osteoporosis, depression, diabetes, obesity, heart, bone, glucose and cholesterol.
