If you're looking for something to do this weekend, this could be a fun one.
The Chatham Hill Winery (near the airport) is hosting its second annual Harvest Festival and Grape Stomping.
There will be vendors selling and sampling, food, prizes, live music and of course the grape stomping. The cost is $10 per person but you get a glass to keep. There will also be case discounts on wine.
The festival will run 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh will be holding a used book sale on Saturday to benefit Books for Kids, a nonprofit organization devoted to making books available to kids at no cost. Proceeds from the sale will provide books for underprivileged children. It will take place in the parking lot outside of the store (Ridgewood Shopping Center, 3522 Wade Ave.) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Great Outdoor Provision Co. has brought back its annual Coat Swap event. The 2009 swap begins today and runs through Oct. 12.
Bring in a gently used coat and receive a 20 percent discount on a new one. The offer does exclude vests, pullovers and a few other jacket styles. Last year the company took in 2,561 coats. The donations are given to a number of area charities, including the Raleigh Rescue Mission.

If you were at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham on Friday night, you may have felt like you'd stepped into Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.
That's because the Halloween and More store there sponsored a professional "Thriller" performance and dance lesson. Shoppers were surprised when a professional dancing troupe broke out into the famous dance, and then they were offered the chance to learn it themselves. It was so popular that the store owners tell me they are going to repeat the event on Oct. 9.
You can find the links for two videos of the event at www.youtube.com/halloweenandmore. Or click below to see the Daily Tarheel's video of the event...
Today only, if you bring two cans of soup to The Cheesecake Factory, the company will donate the soup and 10 percent of your total check to a local food bank. You can dine at either the Streets at Southpoint restaurant in Durham or the one at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
Or, if you can't make it today, Cheesecake Factory will donate a quarter to Feeding America for every slice of Stefanie's Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake (pictured here) sold in the next year. Purchase a whole cheesecake online and they'll donate $1.

Starting today and running through Oct. 7, current and retired educators can get a 30 percent discount on just about anything in the store. You can buy for classroom or personal use. What a nice thank you. I wish more retailers would follow suit.
Borders also has a new educators' loyalty program that entitles educators to 25 percent off certain items throughout the rest of the year.
You can find the details for both here.
This week, you can eat at California Pizza Kitchen in Durham's Streets at Southpoint and donate to a good cause at the same time.
Print out the attached flier and bring it with you when you dine today, Wednesday or Thursday. If you do, 20 percent of your check total will go to the Carrington Middle School Habitat for Humanity Youth United Club.
I know. I'm such an enabler.
Cameron Village is planning a big weeklong celebration in honor of its 60th birthday.
There is a long list of events happening during the week of Oct. 4, culminating in a big celebration with a Beatles Tribute Band on Oct. 11.
If you're interested, you may want to check out the flier below with the listing of the events.
Here's a heads up on one of those shredding events where you can bring your documents to be shredded by an outside company.
The event is sponsored by NBC 17 and is happening on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in three different locations:
*Heritage Wake Forest: the pool at the corner of Marshall Farm Street and Heritage View Trail
*Tryon Place Raleigh: Corner of East Tryon Road and Burtons Barn Street
*and Crossroads Plaza Cary: in front of Michaels and Old Navy, Crossroads Boulevard
For those of you without lunch or dinner plans, this is the last night of the "Great American Dine Out" promotion.
The weeklong events brings together thousands of restaurants nationwide, all of whom work together to support Share Our Strength, a nonprofit that works to end childhood hunger.
There are more than 70 area restaurants participating. Find one, or learn more about the program here.
