Phil Kirk, who has done just about every job in Raleigh except run the Zamboni machine at Carolina Hurricanes games, has a new job.
Kirk will go to work in July for Brady Services Inc., an energy services company specializing in heating, air conditioning and energy efficient buildings in Morrisville, reports Rob Christensen. He will work as new business development/corporate marketing leader for the company’s energy services group.
Kirk is a former president of the N.C. Chamber, former chairman of the N.C. State Board of Education, former state secretary of Health and Human Services, former chief of staff to two governors and a former state legislator.
Most recently, he was vice president for external relations at Catawba College. He currently serves as chairman of the board for the Public School Forum of North Carolina.
Phil Kirk, a former state school board chairman, has been named chairman of the Public School Forum of North Carolina, a nonprofit policy think tank.
Kirk was chief of staff under former Republican governors Jim Martin and Jim Holshouser and state school board chairman under Democratic governors Jim Hunt and Mike Easley. Kirk is now a vice president for external relations at Catawba College in Salisbury.
The forum was founded in 1985. It focuses on public policy research and oversees community programs, such as a network of elementary and middle school programs, according to a news release.
"The Public School Forum has a history of providing leadership on key educational issues," Kirk said in the release. "Everything we do should be based on what is best for the students, even if we have to take unpopular positions."
Phil Kirk has been elected chairman of the Public School Forum of North Carolina.
Kirk, vice president of external relations for Catawba College, will succeed state Sen. Katie Dorsett, a Greensboro Democrat, as chair of the group.
Kirk is a former president of N.C. Citizens for Business and Industry and former chairman of the State Board of Education.
Phil Kirk will be roasted by three former governors.
The former state senator and former lobbyist for N.C. Citizens for Business and Industry (now the N.C. Chamber) will be on the hot seat at an event at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary tonight.
Among those taking jabs will be former Govs. Jim Hunt and Jim Holshouser, and former Gov. Jim Martin will get a few digs in via a prerecorded video.
The event is a benefit for the National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina. It will last from 7 to 9 p.m.
But the Friars Club shouldn't worry too much about the competition.
"It'll be a gentle roast," said Amy Wojciechowski, a spokeswoman for Kirk.
