New look at No Child Left Behind

The state's head of public school testing has been named to a committee that will weigh in on the next version of the federal No Child Left Behind law.

Lou Fabrizio, director of accountability policy and communications at the state Department of Public Instruction, is on a national task force that will present ideas to Congress in September as it rewrites the law on school accountability, reports Lynn Bonner.

The task force was appointed by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

The state Department of Public Instruction this summer will release forms of the standardized tests it gave students this year.

The plan is in step with a recommendation from a blue ribbon panel that suggested the department show its testing work, Lynn Bonner reports.

This is the first time that the state will make available to the general public such a large set of questions and answers, said Lou Fabrizio, director of accountability services at DPI.

The department will post the tests on its web site in August, coinciding with the release of test results.

After the jump, the tests the public will get a look at.
