The ethics investigation into Rep. Thomas Wright continues.

A co-chairman of the Joint Ethics Committee said that it will continue to meet while the legislature is out of session on allegations about the Wilmington Democrat, according to a story in the Wilmington Star-News.

Because of recent changes in state law, any ethics hearings will be open to the public.

The State Board of Elections heard evidence in May that Wright failed to report more than $220,000 in campaign contributions. Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby is investigating Wright as well.

Campaign finance activist Joe Sinsheimer told the Wilmington paper that the committee is taking too long.

"They're giving the public the impression that they are trying to run out the clock in the hope that the Wake County DA will indict Wright before they have to take action," he said.
