Reporting fraud? There's an app for that

The state Auditor's Office has a smartphone application that allows people who spot government fraud or waste to report it, using their smartphones, to the office's investigative division.

Users can download photos or video to support their allegations, according to the office. By law, the names of those making reports are kept confidential. The app, available for iPhones and for phones using the Android operating system, allows for anonymous reporting.

General Assembly app available for iPhone

Legislative staff said last month when they debuted the General Assembly app for Android that iPhone and iPad users would not be left out.

They kept their promise. The free app for iOS devices is now available for download. Find the link at the General Assembly home page, and enjoy.

Happy Constitution Day. All the best, Bob.

Does former state Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr sleep with a copy of the state constitution under his pillow?

Maybe not, but he sure likes talking about it. Now, his outfit, the N.C. Institute for Constitutional Law has made it possible to keep a copy on your iPhone.

Just in time for Constitution Day.

And it's free.

The institute says the app is a joint project between its staff and software developer Brian Goins.

“We are excited to put the North Carolina constitution in the hands of North Carolinians,” said NCICL senior staff attorney Jason Kay.

“Now, more easily than ever before, citizens can read, study, and educate others about the state constitution—the cornerstone of state law and the chief limitation on state government.”

Thanks, NCICL.

There's an app for that Rep.

Rep. Sue Myrick has her own app for the iPhone.

The app from Myrick, a Charlotte Republican, is a free download on the iTunes App Store.

Myrick's app includes links for constituent services, scheduling an appearance for the congresswoman and quick access to her regular video features that she posts on YouTube.

Those videos often focus on terrorism and immigration and other issues important to Myrick. We're assuming that's why Apple rated Myrick's app 12+ for including "Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco or Drug Use or References and Infrequent/Mild Realistic Violence."
