Centsible Saver blog to launch this Sunday

Change is coming to The N&O's coverage of the weekly grocery and drugstore sales, freebies and the Triangle deals scene.

Starting Sunday morning, I'll be launching a new blog called the Centsible Saver.

Wednesday Deals are up

Food Lion, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods have all got some solid sales this week. BOGO deals are plentiful at all three stores and Harris Teeter is also offering several Buy 2, Get 3 Free deals. Shrimp, ice cream and hot dogs are among the B2G3 deals.  Lowes Foods has got a new set of store coupons in this week's ad and those are good through June 21. (So be sure to hang onto one set of these coupons.)
Keep reading for all the deals that stood out to me. And please post any sales that jumped out at you so we can pool our savings expertise and save even more.

Today's Groupon deal: $69 stay at Morrisville Country Inn...

If any of you are planning to have visitors come in from out of town, you may be interested in today's Groupon deal. It's a one-night stay at the Country Inn & Suites in Morrisville for $69 instead of the normal $140 price.

The fine print says limit one per person but does not say anything about blackout dates. So, I suppose that if you know you will have people in town for the holidays, this could be a great way to get a deal on their hotel stay. Other fine print: You have one year to use your certificate and it does not cover tax and gratuity. And of course, it's good today only.

Here's the link to the deal...

Save at Petco...

Through Sunday, Petco is offering 20 percent off regular-priced items with this store coupon or 20 percent off online purchases here. You will need to be a member of the Petco PALS program to use these, but it's free to join!

$10 when you spend $30

From July 3 through July 6, KB Toys stores will be giving shoppers a $10 "Bonus Bucks" card when they spend $30 or more in one transaction. That's like an instant 33 percent rebate! Limit one per household per day. Download the PDF flier below to see some of the sales.

New coupon site...

For some reason, there are a lot of couponers down in Clayton and Garner. I don't really know why this is, but I know it to be true.  Maybe you all are just more frugal down there!

Anyway, I just got an e-mail about a new Web site called claytoncoupons.com. I took a quick look and it seems that though they are just getting started, there could be some potential. There are printable coupons for various Clayton-area businesses, though most of the categories have just a few listings so far... It takes time to build a site like this, so let's keep an eye on it.

Free food today...

Just in case you forgot, today's the big freebie day.

McDonald's is giving away Southern Chicken Biscuits from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and Southern Chicken Sandwiches from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. To get the freebie, you have to buy a medium or large drink, but that's the only catch.

And, Dunkin Donuts is giving away free 16 oz. cups of iced coffee from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Free ribs...

If you're a rib fan, mark your calendar for May 17.

On that day, Shane's Rib Shack stores will be giving away a free half-rack of baby back ribs, a free Coke Zero and a free shirt to the first 100 people at each location. The shirts will be "Shaniac" jerseys, numbered 1 through 100 to indicate the place in line each person held.

The event is the kickoff of the chains 100 days of Backyard BBQ. Customers visiting stores from May 18 through Aug. 15 can enter for a chance to win your a backyard barbecue for 10 or a meal for two at Shane's. Right now the only Shane's in the Triangle is at Poyner Place, the Target-anchored center by Triangle Town Center.

Webkinz promotion...

Since I don't have kids, I'm not sure whether the Webkinz craze is still as hot as it once was. But if you have kids that are still into Webkinz, here's a promotion you should check out. To celebrate the Webkinz World third anniversary, a huge network of retailers all over the country have agreed to participate in a special promotion that begins tomorrow (Friday, April 25). Participating retailers will give away one Webkinz plush toy AT NO EXTRA CHARGE to the first 500 customers who make any in-store purchase of $10 or more. You can search for a participating retailer near you here.

Victoria's Secret sale is on...

I heard on the TV yesterday that the Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Clearance Sale begins today. That's one of those sales where it definitely pays to be an early bird. You certainly want to get there before the weekend. And if you hate shopping in the store, remember the sale is also happening on Victoria's Secret's Web site as well.
