Easley: No plans yet for post-January

Gov. Mike Easley says he's not interested in another political gig.

In an interview with the Associated Press Tuesday, Easley said he'd been urged by Senate Democrats in Washington to run this year for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole's seat, but he said he wasn't interested.

In a February 2007 interview on "The Charlie Rose Show," Easley said he doesn't like "sitting in meetings," citing that as a reason not to run against Dole.

Easley said he still doesn't know what he'll do when he leaves the Executive Mansion in January. He expects to spend some of his time on education, but he has little interest in running for elected office again and expects that will wane even more as he gets older.

He also said he and his wife plan to keep homes in Raleigh and Southport. Mary Easley will continue to work at N.C. State University
