Third-round draft pick?

A new blog is seeking to draft U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler for Senate.

The Shuler for Senate blog, started June 15, has only two posts, the most recent one from yesterday:

Now that Brad Miller has turned down the opportunity to run for Senate, it is now Heath's turn. Heath stands for for the Mountains of North Carolina and our Coast.

The site is not nearly as well-organized as the Draft Brad Miller site, perhaps because Shuler is even more of a long-shot to run. And the few comments it has received are far from positive:

Maybe we should focus on him winning a second term rather than chasing a pipe dream.

Back in his football days, Shuler was a first-round pick for the Washington Redskins.

With Gov. Mike Easley, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and Miller deciding against a Senate run, this blog would make him more like a third-round pick, however.

Snow's job

State Sen. John Snow has joined the blogosphere.

The Murphy Democrat may be the first state legislator to start his own bloglet us know if he's not — about his daily doings in the capital.

So far, he's written about recent bills on virtual learning, vegetable-oil diesel and emergency prescription drugs. He's highlighted upcoming visits by North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections and the 4-H and he's linked to an NPR interview.

In other words, the standard stuff a legislator might note in a letter to constituents.

Still, the blog is an interesting idea, and he's got a pretty clean design for the site. It'll be interesting to see if the comments function attracts more feedback.
