John Sanders, the former director of the Institute of Government, will be honored at a dinner on Feb. 21 in Raleigh held by the N.C. Center for Voter Education.
Sanders, who will receive the (Senator) Robert Morgan Service Award, directed the Institute for 24 years, was instrumental in writing the 1971 version of the state Constitution, played a pivotal role in developing the state community college system and integrating the University of North Carolina system.
The 2013 Spectrum of Democracy Awards dinner will be held at the Raleigh Marriott City Center, with a cocktail reception at 6 pm and dinner at 7 p.m.
