Ronnie Ansley is a Raleigh attorney and frequent Democratic candidate.
Early Life and Education
He was born on Nov. 20, 1961, to Troy and Mildred Ansley in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. His father worked with pulp and paper products, and his mother was a homemaker.
He was the youngest of five children.
He graduated from Gaston High School in 1980.
He then attended N.C. State University, earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural education in 1984.
He earned a master's degree in agricultural education at Clemson University in 1988.
He graduated from Mississippi College School of Law with a law degree in 1991.
Professional Career
During college, he worked part-time as a substitute agriculture teacher in Northampton County.
After college, he worked as a sales representative for Continental Grain in the Wayne Feeds Division, selling livestock feed and health products.
After law school, he opened his own practice doing civil and criminal trial work.
Political Career
In 2000, he ran in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, coming in third to Beverly Perdue.
In 2002, he ran for the newly created 13th District seat in the Democratic primary, losing to Brad Miller.
In 2004, he ran for the N.C. Supreme Court, losing to Justice Paul Newby.
2008 Campaign
In November, he announced he would run for the Democratic nomination to face Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.
Troxler defeated him, 52 to 48 percent.
