How will you measure success in your first year in office?
I would measure it by how successful I can use the bully pulpit and the commissions in keeping the issues facing the state forefront. It's how effective I can be in leading our state government to address the important issues facing us right now.
Tell us about something you did for someone else.
There's so many things I've doen for people after the floods of 2004; that's probably teh biggest thing, helping rebuild the town.
What is the biggest challenge facing North Carolina? Your county? Your district?
From the state government side, the first one is going to be the economy. That's the immediate thing facing us because that's going to affect tax revenue and what people can do. That's going to have a very big effect on people's lives.
The long term would be education.
