Marshall Adame was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 3rd Congressional seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Walter Jones in 2008.
Early Life and Education
Marshall Richard Adame was born on June 12, 1952, to Jonnie Rodriguez Adame and Elderine Adame. His father was a migrant farmworker and a gardener.
He grew up in Pico Rivera, an inner suburb of East Los Angeles, graduating from Kubasaki High School in 1973.
After high school, he joined the Marines.
While in the military, he studied history in night school at various colleges, including the University of Maryland, the Chaminade University in Hawaii, Coastal Carolina University in Jacksonville and N.C. State University.
Though he earned over 200 credit hours, he never applied to receive a degree.
Professional Career
He served 22 years in the Marines in such places as Vietnam, Liberia, Chile, Japan and Korea.
An aviation logistics administrator, he retired with a rank of gunnery sergeant in 1991.
He then served as an advisor to the Kuwaiti Air Force after the first Gulf War. He then spent four years in Egypt.
In 2003, he worked for the Coalition Provisional Authority as airport director of Basra International Airport in Iraq.
In 2005, he was appointed logistics advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior by the U.S. Department of State, working in the Green Zone in Baghdad.
He currently works as a logistics and contract consultant for defense contractors.
His two sons, Billy and Benjamin, have done tours of Iraq in the Army.
Political Career
Beginning in March of 2007, he wrote a blog for The Daily Kos, a progressive political Web site.
A political newcomer, he announced in the spring of 2007 that he would seek the Democratic nomination to run for the 3rd Congressional seat by U.S. Rep. Walter Jones.
He campaigned for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and for educational reform.
He lost the May 6 primary to Morehead City meteorologist Craig Weber, winning just 31 percent of the vote.
