Beverly Earle is a Democratic state representative from Mecklenburg County and a Charlotte mayoral candidate in 2007.
Early Life and Education
Beverly Earle was born in Greensboro, N.C. Her father worked for the city and her mother as a housekeeper for N.C. A&T State University.
She attended classes at A&T, majoring in social service. She moved to Charlotte in 1977 when her husband was transferred.
Family
Earle is divorced. She has one grown son, Steven Jessup, and two granddaughters.
Professional Career
Earle is retired from BellSouth, where she worked for 31 years.
Political Career
Earle worked on several local campaigns in Charlotte in the 1980s and early 1990s. She was the Charlotte manager for Durham Democrat Mickey Michaux's campaign for Congress in 1992, when Michaux's main opponent, Mel Watt, was from Charlotte.
In 1994, Earle won an open House seat in northwest Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
She served four years as a House majority whip for the Democrats, from 1999 through 2002, and four years as a co-chair of the House Appropriations Committee, from 2003 through 2006.
In July of 2007, she filed to run for mayor of Charlotte against incumbent Pat McCrory.
