One of state Sen. Fred Smith's biggest advantages in his quest for the Republican nomination for governor is his assets.
Smith, a self-made millionaire, has already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to run three races for the state Senate and build up name recognition around the state.
According to the final campaign finance report filed for his Senate committee on March 22, Smith loaned his campaign a total of $429,079 in recent years.
Of that, he repaid $66,455 from campaign donations and forgave $362,624 when he closed the committee to run for governor.
