A replacement for state Rep. Angela Bryant was chosen Tuesday morning, according to the Rocky Mount Telegram. Bobbie Richardson, who is director exceptional children services for Vance County schools, was picked by a committee of Nash and Franklin county Democrats.
Gov. Pat McCrory is expected to approve the nomination. Bryant recently resigned from the House, representing District 7, after Bryant was named to fill the state Senate seat of Ed Jones, who died last month.
The newspaper reported Richardson received three more votes than John Gibson, who lives in Nash County. Richardson lives in Franklin County.
U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, a Democrat from North Carolina, released a statement Tuesday afternoon calling Richardson “an excellent choice.”
“Over the years, Dr. Richardson has displayed extraordinary leadership in the field of education, and is a tireless fighter for the needs of children in our state,” Butterfield said.
Hat tip to Jonathan Kappler for Tweeting the Telegram story.
Democrats have yet to nominate a replacement for Mitch Gillespie of Marion, who resigned to go to work for the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
