The Democratic Governors Association -- which paid for TV ads hitting Pat McCrory for his work at Moore & Van Allen law firm -- hired the same law firm to serve as a consultant, according to its latest tax filings.
The DGA paid $2,500 to McCrory's law firm on May 31 and another $2,500 on June 28, listing the purpose of the expenditure as "consulting services," IRS documents show.
A DGA spokeswoman said the organization retained the services of one staffer at the firm to help consult on logistics for the Democratic National Convention logistics. The DGA refused to name the staff, except to say he was not a lawyer, but criticized McCrory for his lack of transparency.
With DGA money, a liberal group called N.C. Citizens for Progress aired a TV ad last month that called Moore & Van Allen a "powerful law firm that lobbies state government" as it questioned McCrory's role. "The firm lobbies for big oil, insurance and financial interests ... but McCrory won't tell us what he's doing for the firm clients," the ad stated.

July 18, 2012 - 9:47am — btushaI am no Pat McCrory fan by any means; I ain't gonna vote for him, but I think that the media should question the Democrat State Party Chair and the guy who I am gonna vote for (Walter Dalton) about McC's law firm doing work for the DGA. If the media does not then it just give credence to the Republican accusations that the media is in the bag for the Dems.
