Trump's take on the presidential race

Hotel mogul and TV personality Donald Trump predicted that GOP candidate Mitt Romney would carry North Carolina, but that it would be a difficult fight.

“North Carolina is one of most important states if not the most important state” in the election, Trump told about 800 persons at a dinner at the Koury Convention Center Friday night. “We need a president who is smart, and tough, and who gets it. We need a president who has business acumen. We need a president who has business ability.''

He also brought up questions about Obama's birth records, saying he should show his college records to see where he is born. His remarks renew a debunked myth that even many Republicans say isn't an issue. He said he would like to see where the place of birth is listed at the three colleges and universities that Obama attended.

“Perhaps it will say Hawaii,” said Trump, drawing broad laughter from the crowd. “Perhaps it will say Kenya. What has that got to do with racism”

He said other presidents have made public their college records.

Trump said he would rather talk about jobs and the economy, but he is asked about the controversy involving the president's birth certificate wherever he goes.
