Weekend roundup: Get an insider's view of the John Edwards trial

The federal courtroom where John Edwards is on trial is not big enough for all the spectators. But those who are shut out can still get an insider’s view of exhibits being discussed. In an unusual move, Judge Catherine Eagles has asked the clerks to post exhibits already published to the jury on a public website. Read more here.

--The Democratic Party’s national chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, added her voice to the president’s by speaking out against North Carolina’s proposed marriage amendment. Prominent Democrats also want to put the legalization of same-sex marriage in the party platform.

--Three N.C. Emergency Management employees were fired after their children were hired as temporary workers.

--A daylong rally against the so-called "war on women" was held downtown in concert with similar events across the nation as women and others expressed outrage over what they say are the erosion of their reproductive rights, health care and the right to earn a fair wage.

--U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the most influential member of Congress on nonprofit issues, says most hospitals in North Carolina need to do more to help poor and uninsured patients.

--Republican Jim Pendergraph on Saturday drew support from controversial-yet-popular Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known for his tough immigration stand.

--Officials at two major N.C. companies have spoken out against the constitutional amendment limiting marriage, and other business leaders want more to do the same. In other amendment news, a Charlottte bishop is apologizing for his comments about the amendment and Charlotte Observer columnist Tommy Tomlinson describes his opposition.
