Episcopal bishops oppose marriage amendment

The three bishops leading North Carolina Episcopal churches sent a letter to clergy in 257 churches detailing their opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage and civil unions.

The letter talks about the possible consequences if the amendment passes, including loss of domestic partner benefits some local governments offer their employees. The state has a law against same-sex marriage. Quoting from Matthew 22:37-40, the bishops wrote that the  amendment falls "dangerously short" of the standard "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
