Synopsis

McHenry is the former president of the N.C. College Republicans. In 2002, he was elected to the N.C. House of Representatives. In 2004, he became the youngest member of the U.S. House, representing the Tenth Congressional District, which covers the mountainous area between Asheville and Charlotte. He was re-elected in 2006. In office, he sponsored measures that would increase the penalty for illegal drug makers who endanger children, prohibit foreign aid to countries that don't extradite accused cop killers and allow some states to use Homeland Security funds for a border fence. In January, he proposed a "minority bill of rights" to require bipartisanship in the House.
