Synopsis | McIntyre worked as an intern for Rep. Charlie Rose during the Watergate era. After working as an attorney, he was elected to replace Rose in 1996 in the Seventh Congressional District, which includes Wilmington, suburbs of Fayetteville and the southern coast of North Carolina. In Congress, he joined the Blue Dog Coalition of conservative Democrats and has earned a reputation as a social conservative. He co-chaired the Rural Health Care Coalition, worked for a tobacco quota buyout and fought for federal recognition of the Lumbee Indians. He voted for the Iraq war resolution. |
