Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue cited her background in education.
In a 23-question survey by the N.C. Association of Educators, the candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination noted that she has been a public school teacher in Georgia and Florida, led a Senate commitee on educatin and has served on the State Board of Education as lieutenant governor.
On the issues, she wrote that she supports keeping the cap on charter schools, the continued use of lottery money for public schools and a "professional competitive salary" for teachers.
She opposes vouchers for private schools and said the federal No Child Left Behind Act has been "significantly under funded and overly bureaucratic."
An NCAE committee recommended the group endorse Perdue.
