Richard Moore said that North Carolina should address the racial achievement gap.
In a 23-question survey for the N.C. Association of Educators, the Treasurer made his case for why it should pick him for the nomination for governor. (A committee recommended rival Democrat Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue.)
In the questionnaire, Moore notes he supported higher teacher pay in the legislature, co-chaired a task force on school safety while secretary of crime control and public safety and worked with a teachers roundtable on its retirement fund.
On the issues, he said he supports keeping the cap on charter schools, using lottery money for public schools and a "professional teacher salary schedule" and opposes school vouchers.
He called the federal No Child Left Behind Act "a political soundbite" that does not provide funding for educational reforms.
