Judge on Geddings

A federal judge has said that former state lottery commissioner Kevin Geddings may have committed perjury during his trial in 2006.

Geddings was found guilty of five counts of mail fraud in a case that centered on his efforts to join the lottery commission while hiding his ties to a lottery vendor, Scientific Games, that was seeking contracts.

U.S. District Judge James Dever III filed an order stating that he is considering adding time to Geddings' sentence because of things he said on the witness stand.

The order details four instances:

* His testimony about a conversation he had with the executive director of the state Board of Ethics about a certain rule.

* His denial that he told two witnesses that he would not have gotten the lottery position if his ties to Scientific Games were known.

* His denial that he intended to defraud the public under the law.

* His testimony that he did not favor Scientific Games while on the lottery commission.
