Dole on landing field

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole sent Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter a letter explaining her opposition to a proposed landing field in Washington and Beaufort counties. In the letter, she said that the project is "simply not feasible."

"Tens of thousands of waterfowl spend much of the year adjacent to the Washignton County site at the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, and I have serious doubts about the effectiveness and soundness of methods that the Navy has said it might use to mitigate this environmental and safety risk," she writes.

The letter is dated April 19, 2007.
