Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies either die in or retire from public office.

Option one .....you win
Option two......you lose

GaryJ it is a tribute to the sound budgeting of Democrats in the Legislature and the Governor's office that the state retains their AAA bond rating during this downturn.

This headline is misleading; while the Democrats do "control state government" Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings rated North Carolina's finances not the Democrats' finances.

Pat Gerrick was also fired by the State of Indiana prior to the NC position. And, who knows if she had "problems" with other employers in the interim? Just remember that the dems gave Gerrick a nice $51,000 bonus, in addition to her $350,000 annual salary, while her investments in the state pension plan lost $17 Billion last year (20% of the pension fund's value) and lost another $4 Billion during the first quarter of this year. Don't you just love those affirmative action hires?

I am just wondering whe they are going to get around to real ethic reform within the ncdot an also amoung the state senators & respresentives in the state legisture so as to get completely rid of the special instrest camapign contributions that buys most any state legisture in the legisture votes for any agenda that they see fit to purchase . an the taxpayers considerations be damned the legisture has been sent to RALEIGH TO RESPRESENTE THE PEOPLE OF THIS STATE AN NOT JUST THE SPECIAL INSTREST BUSINESSES LOBBYIST. BIG MONEY BIG CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS & BEGET BIG FAVORS IN THE LEGISTURE THANK YOU

don't you think that we have carried this affirmative action a little bit too far

$340,000 for an individual who cannot get her own cell phone and doesn't have the brains to pay her own way on trips AND has other things we are not aware of such ala Mike Easley. Or is that stuff going to be pushed under the rug for affirmative action reasons.

This reminds me a lot of the United Way of Charlotte Director being fired
Richard Moore has a lot of explaining to do about this hire.
gee

not true if she increases investments
add the terms "in an ethical and upfront manner"
In this case like the rest of the world the state's investments have gone down.
By the way, why would an individual, who makes over $300,000 a year, mickey mouse around for this little amount, You know what this shows- the fired employee was there because she knew somebody and was female not because she had the brains, which she showed she did not have losing a $300,000 job for $3000 in personal phone calls... gee

Re: Gerrick responds to firing

Gerrick had a poor reputation in the investment community - never respected. she was viewed as a lightweight, and did not have the intellectual command of the markets or of asset allocation.

she copied the same program of free travel as her predecessor = Moore. his office used to call investment managers he would visit with request for free Limo, etc and if he did not get it, his office eventually fired the manager.

the state needs to use a professional recruiter and pay-up for high quality inv manager, not a politician or a state pension fund hack!

Re: Board to admit illegal immigrants

The Democrats are looking to the long term.

Once illegal immigrants are granted immunity, they will register as Democrats. The Democrats will say, "We took care of you when those right wingers called you 'illegals.' We were the ones who got you into college."

It's a smart move on the part of the Democrats. They are building a voting block which will dominate both state and national politics within a few decades. The 'once illegal' vote will become the most important voting block our nation has ever seen.

The Democrats are smart. That's why they stay in power.

Our governor does not seem to care for North Carolina as does her Lt. Gov who voted to keep illegals out of the community college system. She could have been more forceful is telling the board her feelings. To please - Janet Cowell, get the Feds to do their job and send the illegals back from whence they come and we won't have an uneducated public. North Carolina was once listed as the easiest state for illegals to get driver licenses, now we will be number 1 in educating them. Why don't we add the word Illegals to the bottom of the Welcome to North Carolina signs at our states borders. Here's hoping the General Assembly will do the Governors wishes when they bring up the matter in session. This noise about paying out of state tuition is blowing smoke. We all know they pool their resources to attain a goal. Thats like building a wall to keep ants out - a waste. Whats needed is protection for residents of North Carolina now and in the future.
