The Republican outrage over this is such complete nonsense, and Tom Fetzer ought to know better. Maybe he should have done some research and found out that his hero, Ronald Reagan, gave a speech directly to school kids in 1988:

And that exchange had clear political messages in it, about taxes, etc. Pres. Obama's promises to be pretty tame stuff: stay in school, etc.

Also this is in the first year of his administration. The only reason to get upset about such a thing might be if it was close to the president's re-election campaign (like G.H.W. Bush in 1991). This is nowhere close.

If a Public school had refused to air a speech by George Bush,. Mr. Fetzer would be the first to appear before television cameras - nattily attired and primped, of course - to complain about libruls in the public schools hating the troops.

This whole thing is a joke, and those espousing the point of view that the President is a socialist who seeks to indoctrinate children with his evil schemes deserve nothing other than derision. It's not a valid point of view. It has no merit. It's ridiculous.

Not all points of view have equal merit, and this one needs to be called for what it is: stupid.

When George H.W. Bush did something similar in 1991, Democrats went bonkers and demanded that the Bush administration repay $26,750 in taxpayer funds used to hire a production company for the broadcast. The Democrats were right to raise objections to the Bush speech, just as Republicans are right to raise objections to Obama's speech.

From the New York Times (10/4/91): "The money came from the Education Department's salary and expense budget. As a result, Representative William D. Ford, the Michigan Democrat who heads the House Education and Labor Committee, demanded that Education Secretary Lamar Alexander appear before the committee to defend his "spending scarce education dollars to produce a media event.

Why shouldn’t the students hear from The Leader? The right wing nutcases are crazy. The students love the President. Remember the pledge during the campaign?

“Let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other...........I pledge my service to Barack Obama....... I pledge to be a servant to our President."

This pledge should replace the Pledge of Allegiance. Let the children hear from The Leader !

I couldn't care less what Fetzer says. I wouldn't listen to one of Fetzer's speeches. All of my $$ will be going toward Democrat candidates, not the Grand Oil Party that Fetzer represents, which by the way represents corporate interests that ruined this country from 2001-2008.

Public schools have been liberal indoctrination centers for quite a while. This is simply blatantly exploiting that fact.

Not surprised and not the last such stunt to be pulled .... gonna get MUCH worse.
