Hagan knows she'd get creamed in a one-and-one debate with Neal. She knew long ago she didn't have the charisma to go toe-to-toe with Liddy Dole and only threw herself into the race after Schumer got scared by the prospect of this guy who doesn't fit the mold of a Southern Democratic candidate. Kay Hagan might as well be Liddy Dole with a little 'D' instead of an 'R' after her name. North Carolina Democrats deserve a fighter, not a coward who ducks when the going gets tough.

Shrewd politics, bad for democracy

The three also-rans in this race have campaigns that are virtually invisible. This race is between Hagan and Neal - and Hagan seems willing to do just about anything to avoid going head-to-head with Neal. That's probably smart politics, but it doesn't serve the interests of voters. I guess Ms. Hagan's training in the NC Senate is spilling over into her campaign strategy. Don't let the pesky people know what you're doing, work out the deals behind closed doors, and let 'em eat cake.

Pretty damn disappointing from someone who fancies herself a leader.

Much more discussion here.

Re: Perdue outlines election reform

What a joke.

The first half of her "plan" to clean up politics is a direct attack on her opponent Richard Moore.

Once you actually get to the substance of this "plan" it's just a warmed over hybrid of the pot o' money that Russ Feingold proposed to fund elections back in 1999.

Putting aside the legal and constitutional issues surrounding the limitation of political speech that have killed every similar proposal, this is politically dumb. What do you think the average voter thinks about having to pay for these politicians campaigns with their tax money?

These politicians have so screwed up our elections taking semi-legal bribes and ignoring the needs of the state that now they want me to pay for their campaigns? Their ugly negative campaigns that call me during dinner and interrupt Oprah?

THEY WANT ME TO PAY THEM TO NOT BE CORRUPT! How infuriating.

Re: Early voting

Rep Ross had a great point about this being a double felony. Right now if you vote illegally it is one felony charge. If someone votes illegally under this bill then it is a felony for perjury and a felony for vote fraud.
