Re: Helms voted for Sotomayor in '98

It is important to note that Senator Helms' vote was before the controversial statements in the news that were made by Sotomayor.

No, it's important to note that had Jesse Helms lived in the YouTube generation like Sotomayor, he'd still be dead, but you never would have heard of him, although she'd still be the nominee for SCOTUS.

Sotomayor is a lock. She's in. Elections have consequences. To paraphrase Richard Burr from 2005, up or down Baby. Up or down.

It is important to note that Senator Helms' vote was before the controversial statements in the news that were made by Sotomayor. Not to mention, if she already has a yes vote from Helms, does the no vote from Faircloth count?

According to former Supreme Court Justice Robert Orr, Perdue legally became Governor on January 1, 2009, thereby negating ALL of the 'last minute' activities of the former gov sleazely!!! How 'bout that???

I think this underscores how poorly this Palin choice was thought out by McCain...good for the conservatives for rallying around her, but when the base of the unpopular party cheers the pick...the general electorate has to ask itself is this really such a good thing.

Obama, Biden, and the campaign won't have to address this, the media is going to do it for him...rightly or wrongly, people will talk about it because to some people, this affects their vote. It's unfair, but that's also the way it is.

You also cannot argue that as the smoke clears and attention turns to the RNC today with people still speaking about this, the McCain Campaign is doing more time justifying the pick than attacking Obama.

A journalist should ask Faircloth what he thinks of adulterer John McCain. If Edwards is trash, what does that make McCain?

In fact, the only Mayor of Charlotte that I can find who won statewide office was Frank I. Osborne, who was NC Attorney General. (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Mayor/Past+Mayors/Frank+I.+Osborne.htm)

Is this the best you can do?? Have you run out of 'attack material' on Former Sen. Edwards?? Speaking for those brave souls who fought against the evil 'Helms machine' for many years, just because the 'snake' shed its skin, or as you say 'disbanded', it does not mean the snake died. The same people never went away but in fact, became the leadership and the heart & soul of the NC republican party! So, in the REAL world, Former Sen. Edwards was correct!!!

I'd really like to see Mr. Edwards go after some of these CEOs who make billions they can't ever spend in this lifetime, which has a diluting effect on what middle-class investors get in return which has a waterfall effect on everybody else, as well as the investment houses who cause all of the zig-zagging of the economy. Unfortunately, these are the very big contributors to the all of the campaign pots and the newspapers keep proclaiming the ones with the most money the winners. So, are us common people ever to think we will get a fair deal in a president or any other candidates?

John Edwards wants to be president too badly for my taste. I want a president who wants to serve the country, not himself. I get the feeling when I watch him that he would do anything to get elected.

I really get tired of the two Americas bit. His father working in a mill was no different than anyone else at the time. The fact is, mill work was considered very good work, middle class. Better than out priming tobacco. Somehow Edwards managed to get to college. The American dream was alive back then for him! There are two Americas all right, the one politicians live in and the one they keep taxing and mortgaging to death. He was a part of the subprime foreclosure mess by being involved in a fund that did subprime loans. He has since denounced it, but if he didn't know what was going on, how in the world are we going to believe that he can lead a country that needs to go in a different direction ASAP. And we're supposed to think the Clintons are going to do us any better than they did with NAFTA? They sent our business to Mexico and what we've gotten in return is fewer and fewer good jobs (like mill work) and Mexicans coming here.

Yep, its rigged by greedy powers alright...and Edwards cries for 'equality'! ....

Um, check the mega law firm, Alston and Bird of Atlanta, etc. They just swoon over the Breck Girl as they write unbelieveable checks...its a BIG POWER lawfirm that is hugely LIEBERAL!

Hmmmmmmm...just wondering if the trial lawyers have a PAC and if Edwards accepts money from it. I hope that's not a conflict of interest if he does, in fact, accept those donations.
