Nitpicking: Easley was not the DA in Wilmington which is in New Hanover County. Easley served as DA of Brunswick,Pender and perhaps Columbus counties.

What a joke. Tony Rand wrote the book on sleaze. Now, I know that he also treats his friends badly. I would actually think slightly better of him if he reached out to Mike Easley. Rand is an incredibly crooked, rotten pol. He is everything bad in one politician.

Why on earth Tony Rand's bosom-buddyship with Easley or Kay Hagan's appointment of Tony's son or Beth Wood's treatment of the Mary Easley audit bring to mind that old saw, "Birds of a feather . . . ?"

It will be the slickest move in history is Easley is able to weasle his way out of this one; of course he will have the help of the good ole boys club in Raleigh to help him out. If all, or any, of this is true, he could go down as one of the most corrupt governors we've had in this fine state.

Looks like the Gov. of NC office comes with some pretty good perks-cars-private plane rides-vacation homes-land deals-and only God knows what else-all the Gov has to do is appoint the purveyors of this largesse to powerful government commissions and offices and see that their permits for developments and other ventures are not impeded by messy government beaurecrats.I'll bet the next gubernatorial election has 100's run when they find out all the perks that come with a very nice salary-maybe more than 100's will run since our unemployment rate is well over 10% and looks like it is going higher-

I really don't think there is much to investigate. This whole thing was probably some type of automobile sales gimmick. I'm figuring it was one of those deals like a free weekend at Myrtle Beach if you will take a tour of a timeshare condo. This was probably the same type deal to get people to visit Red Springs.

If they offered me a free car to visit Red Springs, I'm not sure I would go. It'd have to be a mighty fine ride.

things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm This is the guy who along with his son McQueen flew the governor around alot on their private plane. McQueen was also appointed to the UNC Board of Trustees?? Or something like that.

DOT board member Campbell resigns

RALEIGH — The Cape Fear region’s representative on the state Transportation Board has resigned nearly two years before the end of his term.

Mac Campbell, who represented Division 6, said he decided to spend more time with his family and his businesses, Campbell Oil & Gas Co. and Minuteman Food Marts in Elizabethtown.

He said his departure has nothing to do with the investigation of former Gov. Mike Easley, who appointed Campbell eight years ago. Campbell and his sons have been named in a published report alleging violations of state ethics laws in their political relationships with Easley. The former governor appears now to be under a federal investigation.

“I’ve had a good eight years,” Campbell said Wednesday. “I just felt like it was the right time to go.”

But he wouldn’t say whether federal investigators have contacted him or his sons, McQueen Campbell and Brian Campbell.

“I really am not at liberty to say,” Mac Campbell said.
