If I am not mistaken this t-shirt phrase is the literal translation of "Esse Quam Videri."

This was not worth reporting but if it got your attention I guess the slogan worked. If it said Eat at Joes, would you be giving the same coverage. If you don't like don't buy one.

The noted comedian 'Flip' Wilson made famous the phrase: "The devil made me do it."

This is just an updated version: "My daughters made me do it."

Re: Basnight restaurant almost ready

The Virginian-Pilot carries more news about Northeastern North Carolina than does The News & Observer, but of course, "The Albemarle" and Northeastern N.C. are practically "in the back yard" as far as the Norfolk newspaper's circulation territory is concerned.

Perhaps The N&O could open up a couple of bureaus "Down East" to let folks in Raleigh know what is going on from "E-Town" to "E-City" (Elizabethtown to Elizabeth City.)

Jerry Allegood has certainly rendered stellar regional reportorial service from Greenville and other Eastern N.C. locales, so he deserves a Ted Vaden regional news gold star or at least a couple of company ducats to a future Carolina mudcats home game.

If The N&O had a correspondent in Edenton, Hertford or Elizabeth City, we could find out what exhibits will be on the schedule at the Museum of the Albemarle, along with other Northeastern N.C. news tidbits.

True, The N&O has emphasizes its Triangle urban focus of late, but don't forget, there are people in Raleigh and the Triangle who are from all across North Carolina and would like to know what's going on back home every now and then.

Meanwhile, although it would be a tough and journalistically thankless task, it would be a fine thing if some N&O were "volunteered" to go out to the Lone Cedar Cafe when it re-opens in order to sample the delectables on the latest menu and report back to the Carolina Dining Editor.

Sandy Basnight was one "fine Lady", a Tar Heel from Manteo to Murphy and loved the Heels also. Like her Husband she loved the Waters around Manteo and respected what the good Lord had put there.. She was the True "Team Player" not only with Her Friend and Partner Marc but Her Daughters who were The Apples in her eyes... And the People of the area and Her Employees she had the up most Love and Respect for...At work she was not the bose but "The Team Player". She carried the words from The Bible right up front in life, " let Your Light so shine that Others mr follow"... And her workers and family knew that.. We all lost something in the lose of this Lady, a good Clam digger and after all anyone that loves animals like she did can not be all bad... A great Soul Mate.

I was at the beach this weekend - they are working very quickly on that restaurant. Visible progress was made during the 5 days we were there. Folks were working on Memorial Day and at night under lights. And we did see Mr. Basnight supervising the scene on Memorial Day too.

This explains a lot

The good senator has been busy getting his family restaurant up and running, but maybe not so busy keeping up with the plight of those most vulnerable in our state? By voting to let the temporary taxes expire, the Senate is pushing NC farther into debt - while shredding critical services for those most in need.
